The Fine Art of Filet Crochet

When you do Filet Crochet you actually create a type lace fabric.

The Filet Crocheter only uses two stitches to create a grid-like lace. The create the design it any way they like. If you can draft your design on grid paper it will probably convert to Filet Crochet.

The 2 stitches used are the chain stitch and the double crochet stitch. Usually in one color, the crocheter uses Mercerised cotton crochet thread and the piece is worked in rows.

Common uses for Filet Crochet include tablecloths, window treatments and place mats.

The Filet Crochet is an unforgiving craft and it will not tolerate mistakes. Each stitch has to perfect and it may take over a year to complete a tablecloth such as the case with the one below.
